This study circle will focus on French psychoanalyst Jacques Lacan’s late work. The period from 1972 onwards represents a third stage in Lacan’s thinking, in which he became increasingly concerned with the real and jouissance (enjoyment). Revolving around two pivotal moments in this ‘turn’, Seminar XX and Seminar XXIII, our meetings will consider key concepts that were formalised during these years, including lalangue, the sinthome, and the absence of the sexual relation. No academic or disciplinary credentials are required to participate; familiarity with psychoanalytic concepts is recommended, but not necessary.
