Borrowing its title from American poet and theorist Fred Moten’s phrase “fantasy in the hold,” this study circle will approach psychoanalysis through the case of Blackness. In particular, Afro-pessimism and para-ontological thought will provide occasions for reconsidering key psychoanalytic concepts and developing a discussion around subjectlessness. Readings will include texts by Moten, Frantz Fanon, Derek Hook, and David S. Marriott.
This study circle will primarily consider psychoanalysis from a theoretical perspective. It is not a training course for individuals wishing to practice psychotherapy. No academic or disciplinary credentials are required to participate. Familiarity with psychoanalytic theory is recommended, but not necessary. The circle will be held in English.
This study circle is led by the author and poet Matthew Rana.
The study circles are hosted together with ABF Stockholm.
