School of Emergencies är väldigt glada för att bjuda in till ett samtal mellan Alessandro Petti, Sandi Hilal och Shahram Khosravi om hur meningsfulla rum för lärande och pedagogik kan skapas idag.

Alessandro Petti och Sandi Hilal driver arkitektkollektivet DAAR (Decolonizing Architecture and Research) som rör sig mellan arkitektur, politik och konst. I över ett decennium har de undersökt relationen mellan avkolonisering och arkitektur, och inte minst hur en prövande, antirasistisk och emancipatorisk pedagogik kan formuleras och praktiseras idag.

På medborgarhuset tar Sandi och Alessandro avstamp i arbetet med Campus in Camps – en pedagogisk plattform för gemensamt lärande i flyktingläger i Palestina – och The Tree School, en plats för lärande där levda erfarenheter får vara utgångspunkten.

Under kvällen samtalar Alessandro och Sandi med Shahram Khosravi. Shahram är professor i socialantropologi vid Stockholms universitet, hans senaste bok Seeing Like a Smuggler: Borders from Below (Pluto Press) gavs ut 2021. Han har under lång tid intresserat sig för alternativa pedagogiker och har de senaste åren initierat flertalet läs– och studiecirklar utanför universiteten.

School of Emergencies startades av Hägerstensåsens medborgarhus och det (exil)ryska kollektivet Chto Delat sommaren 2022. Den interdisciplinära skolan riktar sig till konstnärer, poeter, forskare och aktivister främst från Ryssland och Sverige, som ett svar på den ökade repressionen i Ryssland. Genom flera moduler 2022 och 2023 tar sig deltagarna tillsammans med mentorer och inbjudna gästlärare an krisen i ett bredare sammanhang av ökad nationalism och populism, åtstramningspolitik och klimatkris.

The School of Emergencies is pleased to invite you to a conversation between Alessandro Petti, Sandi Hilal and Shahram Khosravi on the creation of self-organized learning environments and the emancipatory dimensions of learning in context.

Alessandro Petti and Sandi Hilal run the architectural collective DAAR (Decolonizing Architecture and Research), situated between architecture, art, pedagogy and politics. In their practice they explore the relation between decolonization and architecture, and not least how informal, anti-racist and emancipatory pedagogies might be formulated and practiced today.

The evening starts with Sandi and Alessandro telling about their work with Campus in Camps – an experimental educational program and pedagogical platform bringing together theory, action and critical learning in the context of Palestinian refugee camps – and The Tree School, a place for learning where lived experiences can be the starting point.

The presentation is followed by a conversation between Alessandro, Sandi and Shahram Khosravi. Shahram is a professor of social anthropology at Stockholm University, his latest book Seeing Like a Smuggler: Borders from Below (Pluto Press) was published in 2021. For a long time he has been working with alternative pedagogies, and initiated several study circles and other pedagogical formats beyond the universities.

The School of Emergencies was started by Hägerstensåsens medborgarhus and the collective Chto Delat in the summer of 2022. The School of Emergencies is a transdisciplinary school for artists, writers, researchers, activists and others mainly from Russia and Sweden, responding to the emergencies created by growing repression in Russia. The fellows of the school together with mentors and invited teachers explore these issues in a broader context of growing nationalistic tendencies and populism, austerity measures and the ongoing climate crisis.
