– Bianca Stone, “What’s Poetry Like?”
This study circle will place contemporary poetry in conversation with participants’ own poetic practice. In its two-hour format, we will first discuss a full volume of poems published after 2001 – with books by Anne Carson, James Fenton, Safiya Sinclair, Roger Robinson, Don Mee Choi, Terrance Hayes, Layli Long Soldier, and Wendy Cope. In the second half of the session, we will talk about work by group participants – whether a published book of poems, work-in-progress, freestanding text, collaboration, or performance piece – beginning with an introduction by the author. As such, this reading group is intended for practicing poets (although anyone with an interest in poetry is welcome).
Readings will be in English, and discussion in both English and Swedish. Participants will get 15-20% off the reading list at the newly opened nord books in Södermalm. This is the study circle’s second season – previous attendance is not a requirement.
This circle is led by the poets and translators Max Alletzhauser and Elizabeth Clark Wessel.
The circle is host by Hägerstensåsens medborgarhus together with ABF Stockholm. The whole circle schedule will soon be posted here on the webpage.
